On a new students' and residents' chapter of the Aerospace Medical Association
And the hope of a better future for us and generations ahead
I am very proud to announce I got the green light to set up the Spanish chapter of AMSRO, the official student and resident organization of AsMA (Aerospace Medical Association), coinciding with its 30th anniversary. This will be the first European chapter of the organization, becoming an excellent platform to help young Spanish physicians and scientists specialize in this important field of work.
It is also a great pride to communicate that I have been asked to lead a special issue of the African Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences (AFJHSS), an international peer-reviewed open access journal published biannually, focused on the potential impact of open health technologies (open source health informatics, knowledge bases, blueprints, and hardware) in developing nations and marginalized communities.
These two projects are intimately linked to my main project as an MD-PhD student-researcher working on the collaborative management of psychiatric medication, as I am planning to devote the remaining four years to diving as deep as possible not only into the human factors involved in treatment choice and success in mental healthcare, but also into the development of an open-source decision support expert system (AI) for psychiatric care, and the necessary creation of a double-use open medical knowledge-base to assist both in differential diagnosis - proper formulation of cases and optimal clinical decision making, plus medical education and training.
Sir Isaac Newton once complained -in part due to his own folly and lack of planning-, that he could calculate the motions of the heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people. It is a joy to be able to say that there is a growing number of committed individuals working as hard as possible to ensure that the space age won’t be yet another crazy, bloody act misled by human stupidity, but one that will help us all collectively leave insanity behind as our sons and daughters become free and able to set course to explore the stars in peace; that there is hope, a bright future ahead, and we can all work towards achieving it despite hatred and despair, war, still raging wild down here. More on it all soon!
